A news crew of ABS-CBN accompanying a police convoy survived a landmine explosion Friday noon in Talaingod, Davao del Norte, a military official said over the weekend.
Military chief information officer Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala said the incident occurred at around 2:30 p.m. on the national highway in Sitio Opao, Barangay Palma Gil.
Zagala said the news crew, which included correspondent Claire Cornelio, had just come from a relief operation in Sitio Nasilaban.
Right after the explosion, gunmen believed to be members of the New People’s Army (NPA) opened fire at the convoy.
Zagala said residents in the area reportedly saw rebels planting the landmine before the convoy came along.
He said no one was hurt in the attack.
