Twins fire long-time skipper Gardenhire

MINNEAPOLIS: Ron Gardenhire was sacked as the Minnesota Twins manager on Monday (Tuesday in Manila), one day after the club missed their fourth-straight Major League Baseball postseason. The long-time skipper, who had guided the Twins for 13 seasons, led them to a 70-92 losing record this year. Gardenhire had one year left on a two-year deal he signed prior to the start of this past season.
