TWO policemen were killed and one was injured after a police patrol was waylaid late Sunday night by a group of New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in a remote village in Eastern Samar province, police reports said on Monday.
PNP spokesman, Senior Supt. Wilben Mayor identified the slain policemen as Insp. Alberto Ayad and PO1 July Juliata, both are detailed with the Arteche Municipal police station.
The PNP official also identified the wounded policeman as PO3 Glorioso Nebril.
The policemen were onboard a patrol car when they were ambushed by still undetermined number of NPA rebels at about 9 p.m. on Sunday at Barangay Central, Arteche town in Eastern Samar, Mayor said.
The PNP official said the policemen were then rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment, but the two police officers were declared dead on arrival by attending physicians.
Elements of the Arteche Municipal police and Regional Public Safety Battalion (RPSB) were dispatched to the place of the incident to conduct pursuit operations against the rebels. ANTHONY VARGAS
