Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) operatives over the weekend arrested two former members of the Philippine Army in Leyte.
PDEA Director General Arturo Cacdac Jr., identified the suspects as Fernando Aranez, 42, of Barangay 1, Giporlos, Eastern Samar; and Lou Villaluna, 46, of Baras, Palo, Leyte.
Aranez, a watch-listed drug personality in Eastern Samar, was a former sergeant at the Special Operation Team Unit, 8th Division, in Camp Lucban, Catbalogan City, Western Samar. Villaluna, on the other hand, was a corporal at the 62nd Infantry Battalion, Eighth Division, based in Barangay Santa Maria, Agusan del Sur.
Joint elements of PDEA Regional Office 8 and Region 8 Special Operations Group confiscated a plastic sachet containing white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu, with an estimated market value of P 16,500, a red Honda motorcycle, and three P500-bills used as marked money during the operation.
Cacdac said that the suspects are now temporarily detained at the PDEA RO 8 jail facility, while the pieces of drug evidence were submitted to the Region 8 PNP Crime Laboratory for qualitative examinations.
Aranez and Villaluna will be charged for violation of Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs), Section 11 (Possession of Dangerous of Drugs) and Section 26 (Attempt or Conspiracy to Sell Dangerous Drugs), Article II of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
