Two killed in Koronadal pawnshop robbery

TWO security guards were killed and four others were injured, including two young boys, following a daring pawnshop robbery on Thursday noon in Koronadal City, police reports said on Friday.

Reports reaching the Philippine National Police national operations center in Camp Crame, Quezon City identified the victims as Joan Lasaga and Arlon Tamayo, who were the slain security guards.

The wounded were identified as Noel Villor, 25; Alfredo Paguirigan; Sheryl Mae Galagar and Mark Anthony dela Torre.

The robbery incident took place on Thursday noon when still unknown number of gunmen attacked the Agencia Brillantes pawnshop in Osmena Street, Koronadal City.

The two security guards were killed when they fought off the robbers.

The reports said Tamayo, who was guarding a nearby shoe shop, was shot by the robbers in the neck after he tried to help his fellow security guard in fighting the robbers.

The robbers then fled but not after lobbing a grenade to cover their escape. The grenade failed to explode, reports said.

Mayor Peter Miguel of Koronadal City is reportedly offering to raise a bounty for any information leading to the arrest of robbers.

Police are still investigating the incident for possible identification of the suspects.
