The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) will send two Philippine teams to the FIBA Asia 3×3 U-18 Championship in Cyberjaya, Selangor this weekend.

The Philippines is the defending champion in the men’s division. Kobe Paras led the Filipino squad to victory in the maiden edition en route to the squad’s entry into the 2015 FIBA 3×3 U18 World Championships.

Hosted by Malaysia this year, 12 men’s teams and 12 women’s teams will compete in the tournament organized by FIBA, the Malaysian Basketball Association and NBL Asia. The Gem-In shopping mall will be the tournament’s venue.

The first edition of the FIBA 3×3 U18 Asian Championships was held in Bangkok, Thailand on May 2013, which saw the Philippines’ men and Chinese Taipei’s women squads take home the titles.

Comprising the men’s team are Kyle Christian Tan, John Lloyd Clemente, John Martin Galinato and Rhayyan Amsali. The women’s team, on the other hand, is composed of Kristine Cayabyab, Mary Ann Cayabyab, Jenilyn Gamboa and Cristel Mae Dizon.

The Philippine players will be under coaches Anton Altamirano and Mark Solano.

SBP Regional Director Edilberto Abalos and coach Jehtru Yao, which represents the Dagupan girls team will accompany the contingent.
