CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga: Two police officers one of them a woman are in hot water after they were tagged by a teacher and her boyfriend of allegedly illegally arresting and bringing them to the police station before demanding P20,000 from them in exchange for their freedom.
Investigators identified victims as Irish de la Cruz, 33, teacher, and her boyfriend Philip Lucas, 37, an instructor at the Holy Angel University and a resident of Fiesta Community, Manibaug, Porac, Pampanga.
De la Cruz and Lucas said that they were hanging out at Nepo Quadrangle in Barangay Cutcut, Angeles City, around 6:30 p.m. the other night when accosted by the suspects Police Officer 1 Mark Anthony Bagsic and PO1 Rachelle Lugtu.
The two suspects who were onboard a mobile patrol car forcibly dragged the victims inside their vehicle without informing them of their offense and brought them to the po- lice station.
While inside the station, the suspects allegedly threatened to charge them with trumped-up cases if they will not come up with P20,000 cash.
The victims were only released around 8 p.m. the same day after they promised to return and bring the money to the suspects, who took their personal belongings purportedly to ensure their return.
Unknown to the suspects, de la Cruz narrated their ordeal to her father Nardo, a village councilor, who accompanied them to the Angeles City Police Station 1, where they filed a formal complaint against the suspects.
An entrapment was set against the suspects the following day resulting in their arrest.
The entire team of the mobile patrol unit led by Senior Inspector Felimon Oyan was subsequently sacked and reassigned to the city personnel holding and accounting unit to prevent them from influencing the outcome of the investigation.
