TWO policemen and their “asset” were arrested for extortion during an entrapment operation launched on Monday night by operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) at their station in Obando, Bulacan.
The chief of the CIDG’s Major Crimes Investigation Unit (MCIU), Senior Supt. Glenn Silvio identified the two policemen as PO3 Winston Mariano and PO1 Benjamin Sauban, and their asset as John Victor Vendano.
Silvio said that the three were arrested inside the Obando Municipal Station where the two policemen are assigned after receiving marked money from the wife of a man that they had arrested earlier for drug charges.
The CIDG Chief, Director Victor Deona said that the entrapment operation was launched after the woman said the suspects were demanding P150,000 to free her husband, whom they had arrested at the couple’s home in Sta. Maria town last Saturday.
Deona said that the day after the arrest, the wife said she went to the Obando police station and gave Mariano P40,000 as an initial payment.
The CIDG Chief said that at around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, operatives of the MCIU and Bulacan Provincial Police Office conducted the entrapment operation and pounced on the suspects as they received dusted money as additional payment from the wife.
Deona said that the three arrested suspects will be facing charges for violations of RA No. 3019 (Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act) and Article 294 Robbery/Extortion.
