Engineering students John Paul Santos and Christian Santa Romana of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) took third place in the Go Green in the City World Finals held recently in Paris, France.
Their invention, Electrifilter, a device that generates electricity from waste water, took third spot in the 12-nation competition.
The first and second places were won by students from India and France, respectively.
Before going to France, PUP’s Team Electrifilter won the country finals of Go Green in the City 2015 last March 6 in Taguig City (Metro Manila).
Then Santos and Romana topped the East Asia finals held last April 2 where they bested participants from Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
Go Green in the City is an international challenge to encourage engineering students to design devices that optimize energy and power.
