Two rebels killed in Surigao clash


TWO alleged rebels were killed and one soldier was wounded in two separate clashes between government troops and communist insurgents in Surigao del Sur and Iloilo on Friday, military reports said over the weekend. Reports reaching Camp Aguinaldo, said elements of the Army’s 36th Infantry Battalion (IB) were conducting combat patrol operations in Sitio Togopon, Brgy. Hinapuyan, Carmen, Surigao del Sur when they chanced upon a group of rebels from the NPA’s front-30 of the North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee operating in the province, that resulted into a fierce firefight and the killing of two still unidentified rebels and recovery of an AK-47 and M16 rifle, personal belongings and subversive documents with high intelligence value. In Iloilo, Private First Class Ronald Apiladas was wounded following an encounter between troops of the 82nd Infantry Battalion and NPA rebels at Sitio Cadinglian, Brgy. Buloc, Tubungan, Iloilo Friday afternoon.
