TWO suspected Akyat-Bahay gang members were killed in a shootout with the police on Friday dawn in Marilao, Bulacan, police reports said. Senior Insp. Lynelle Solomon, public information chief of the Bulacan Provincial Police Office, said investigators are still establishing the identity of the suspects including one which managed to escape. Initial reports reaching Camp Crame said the suspects barged into the house of Lorena de la Cruz, 52, a businesswoman, in Barangay Sta. Rosa-2, Marilao. De La Cruz was awakened by the noises created by the suspects, prompting her to shout for help. When the group scampered, the businesswoman called the Marilao Police, which immediately sent a team. The team spotted the fleeing robbers, who reportedly fired at them. Recovered from the scene were two caliber .38 pistols and several pieces of spent shells and live bullets. The reports added that policemen were also able recover a stolen bag containing a cellular phone, assorted jewelry, and P25,000 in cash.
