TWO alleged ranking members of the communist rebel movement were arrested by government security forces Friday afternoon in a suburban village in Marikina City, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported Saturday.
Initial reports from the PNP national operations center in Camp Crame identified the arrested rebels as Paolo Socrates Versoza and Grace Abartique Mendoza, members of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) and National Democratic Front (NDF).
Versoza is the intelligence officer of the Samar Provincial Party Committee which is under the Eastern Visayas Regional Party Committee. Versoza is the medical officer.
The two were arrested by a joint team from the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) and the Eastern Police District (EPD).
The reports said Versoza and Mendoza are wanted for robbery with homicide and illegal possession of explosives.
The two are detained at the headquarters of EPD in Pasig City.
