Heavy rains from a deadly typhoon have forced organizers to delay the start of the Philippine Open by a day and slash the tournament to 54 holes, the Asian Tour said on Wednesday.

The $300,000 event, originally scheduled to open on Thursday, will now start on Friday after downpours at the Luisita Golf and Country Club, about 105 kilometres (65 miles) north of Manila.
