National University (NU) raced to its fourth straight win after defeating University of Santo Tomas, 75-61, on Saturday in UAAP men’s basketball at the Araneta Coliseum
With main players Bobby Ray Parks and Cameroonian center Emmanuel Mbe shackled by UST’s defense, playmaker Robin Rono tallied a career-high 19 points, including two vital treys in the fourth quarter, to hand the Bulldogs its 7th against three defeats and second place behind league-leading Far Eastern University.
“The players played well and sustained their fine start until the last buzzer. We just need to play strong defense all the time,” said NU mentor Eric Altamirano. “I’m also happy that other players like Romeo had contributed tonight.”
Mbe gave NU its biggest lead at 56-42 in the closing seconds of the third quarter. The Glowing Tigers never threatened after that.
Shooting guard Denise Villamor fired 18 points and hauled down nine rebounds, and Parks added 10 points along with eight rebounds and five assists.
UST suffered its third straight loss for a 4-5 card.
