Far Eastern University banked on Eric Giganto’s 81st minute goal Sunday to score a 1-0 win over University of the Philippines and move closer to sweeping the first round of University Athletic Association of the Philippines men’s football action at the FEU-Diliman pitch.
The Tamaraws, who hold a league-best 15 points, are unbeaten in five games. They go for a sweep of the first round before the league goes on a holiday break against the De La Salle Green Archers in a televised duel on Friday.
In Sunday’s other match, De La Salle scored a 2-1 win over archrival Ateneo. The Green Archers moved to third place with nine points.
De La Salle is a point behind second-running University of the East (10 points).
The loss ended the Fighting Maroons two-game winning streak to remain with six points in fifth place, while the struggle continues for the Blue Eagles, who still have four points on a 1-1-3 slate.
Wednesday matches also at the Diliman venue pit Ateneo against National University at 1 p.m. and UP against University of Santo Tomas at 3 p.m.
