De La Salle University outlasted University of the Philippines, 2-1, to stop a two-game losing skid in UAAP men’s football Saturday at the Far Eastern University-Diliman pitch.
University of the East sustained its remarkable performance by crushing National University, 2-0, to post nine points, while reigning champion Ateneo nipped University of Santo Tomas, 1-0, to also barge into the win column.
The Green Archers (1-0-2) improved to three points alongside the Blue Eagles (1-0-1) in fourth place.
UP stayed winless in the tournament.
Chuck Uy scored for the Green Archers in the 11th minute, before Fighting Maroons Jinggoy Valmayor tied the count at 1-1 50 seconds into the second half.
A goal by Iñigo Gonzales put La Salle ahead in the 50th minute.
Fitch Arboleda delivered his fourth goal of the season in the 55th minute while rookie Ariel Mallen converted 11 minutes later for the Red Warriors, who are unbeaten in three starts.
