UAAP: Santo Tomas blunts UE’s late surge for 3rd win

University of Santo Tomas (UST) withstood University of the East’s (UE) fiery fourth-quarter comeback to forge an 88-77 win on Saturday in UAAP men’s basketball at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The Growling Tigers’ Cameroonian center Kareem Abdul and forward Aljon Mariano registered career-highs 25 and 24 points to help UST bounce back from Thursday’s loss to the National University Bulldogs.

The Growling Tigers, who also drew 19 points from Ed Daquioag, improved to 3-1 win-loss slate while the Red Warriors dropped to 1-3 on back-to-back losses.

Point guard Roi Sumang scored 21 points for UE who missed 6’8 Sierra Leonenan Charles Mammie who is sitting out a one-game suspension for committing an unsportsmanlike foul last Thursday against Adamson.
