University of the Philippines opened its campaign in UAAP softball on a high note as its routed University of the East, 13-3, at the Rizal Memorial Ballpark in Malate, Manila.
National University and University of Santo Tomas also won their opening-day games.
NU demolished De La Salle University, 9-3, while UST slipped past Ateneo de Manila University, 6-5.
UP, NU and UST share the lead with 1-0 card each.
Defending champion Adamson University will begin its four-peat bid against UST on Saturday at the Rosario Stadium in Pasig City.
Adamson has 12 UAAP softball titles including three straight in Seasons 75, 74 and 73.
In men’s football, UE faces defending champion Far Eastern University at 3 p.m. today at the FEU-Diliman pitch.
The Red Warriors is on top with 10 points. They stunned UP, La Salle and NU then drew with defending champion Ateneo in their first four games.
The Tamaraws is in second with nine points.
