National University relied on Anna Christine Patrimonio to nip De La Salle University, 3-2, and win the UAAP women’s tennis title Saturday at the Olivarez College courts in Paranaque City.
Anna Christine, one of the two tennis-playing daughters of four-time PBA MVP Alvin Patrimonio, wrapped up the title for NU by trouncing Rachelle de Guzman, 6-4, 6-2, in the deciding match of the best-of-five series.
NU took the opening doubles as Marie Gold Nagret and Anna Vienna Biernes dominated Lynette Palasan and Dasha Camille Bautista, 6-2, 6-0.
But De La Salle won two singles matches to take the lead.
De La Salle’s Ma. Regina Santiago whipped NU rookie Jzash Eale Canj, 3-6, 5-4 (ret.), and Marinel Rudas scored a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Hanna Grace Espinosa in the second singles.
NU tied at 2-2 when Kimberly Kaye Uytico and Junnalyn Polito defeating Anne Rene Castillo and Nikkirey Arandia in the second doubles match, 6-3, 6-4.
Patrimonio then clinched the deciding singles match.
The NU women’s team allowed NU to sweep the tennis competitions of Season 76 after their men’s squad beat University of the Philippines last Tuesday.
