De La Salle University outlasted Ateneo de Manila University, 25-14, 25-20, 19-25, 26-24, on Saturday to even the UAAP women’s volleyball finals at one game all.
Victonara Galang nailed 16 kills for 17 points to lead the Lady Green Archers, while Mika Reyes added 14 and Abigael Marano had 11 to put La Salle a game from winning their fourth straight championship.
Ateneo won Game 1 via 17-25, 25-23, 25-13, 25-20 to negate La Salle’s thrice-to-beat edge to race-to-two win.
Ateneo’s Alyssa Valdez of San Juan Batangas collected 100 in overall statistical points to win the Most Valuable Player award.
Valdez also won the best server and best scorer trophies in the women’s category.
Valdez, a third year player, had 0.74 service aces per set and 269 points from spikes, blocks and service aces to gain the other awards.
Dindin and Jaja Santiago of National University was named the best attacker and Rookie of the Year awards, respectively.
Denden Lazaro also of Ateneo won the best digger and best receiver awards.
Kim Fajardo of La Salle was named the best setter, and Kathy Bersola of University of the Philippines, the best blocker.
