University of the East (UE) and Ateneo De Manila University gun for back-to-back wins today when they clash with separate foes in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 78 men’s basketball at the Araneta Coliseum.
The UE Red Warriors of coach Derrick Pumaren will battle the winless Adamson University Falcons in the first game at 2 p.m. followed by the tussle between the Ateneo Blue Eagles and the defending champions National University (NU) Bulldogs at 4 p.m.
The Red Warriors are expected to bank on rookie Bon Batiller who posted 23 points in leading UE to its first victory with Edgar Charcos and Paul Varilla to serve as backups.
Ateneo, on the other hand, bounced back from a humiliating loss to Far Eastern University, by routing Adamson University, 84-60, for a 1-1 record.
Skipper Kiefer Ravena, who scored 24 points along with three assists and three steals, wil be carrying the Blue Eagles along with rookie Aaron Black, Von Pessumal, Matthew Nieto and Jerie Pingoy.
“We really need to sustain our energy because NU has the experience and at the same time they are hungry for victory at this moment. Kiefer is becoming consistent and I’m hoping our other players will also be at the same page when we play NU,” said Ateneo mentor Bo Perasol.
“The good thing is our players have already recovered from our opening blowout loss to FEU,” he added.
Meanwhile, Adamson lost to league leader University of Santo Tomas Growling (3-0) and Ateneo while the Bulldogs were beaten by De La Salle University and NU.
