UNIVERSITY of the East (UE) completed another championship double as it topped the men’s and women’s division in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 78 fencing tournament held at the Blue Eagle gym in Katipunan.
The Red Warriors capped another title run in the men’s side by ruling the team foil event in the final day.
UE finished the season with four golds, three silvers and two bronze medals, beating University of Santo Tomas (2-0-2) and University of the Philippines (0-2-3) in the process.
Graduating Warrior Michael Nicanor, who topped the individual men’s foil event on opening day by beating fellow teammate Nathaniel Perez, was named the tournament Most Valuable Player (MVP).
UE capped its dominating stint in the women’s division by ruling the saber and epee team events. The Lady Warriors are on top of the world for the ninth straight season.
Behind the efforts of season MVP Keren Pangilinan, UE collected a 5-1-2 gold-silver-bronze tally. UST finished in second place with 1-2-2 haul, while La Salle had 0-2-4 in third spot.
The most successful team in the sport, the Warriors completed a championship double for the fourth straight year.
UE also swept the boys and girls championships in the high school division.
