UNIVERSITY of the East (UE) tries to force a playoff for the last Final Four seat on Tuesday when it faces University of Santo Tomas (UST) in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 77 men’s basketball tournament at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Red Warriors, who were coming off an impressive four-game winning streak to post an 8-5 record, need a crucial win against the Growling Tigers in their game at 2 p.m. to tie National University’s (NU) 9-5 slate.
If UE wins, it will battle NU in a playoff for the No. 4 spot.
The Red Warriors scored a close 68-66 win over defending champion De La Salle University on Wednesday behind the heroics of Bong Gallanza, who scored 21 points.
“We have to keep fighting and play defense,” said UE mentor Derrick Pumaren, who will also lean on Charles Mammie and playmaker Roi Sumang.
“UST will play with a lot of pride on Tuesday though that’s why we have to prepare against the best UST,” added Pumaren.
The Tigers, are already out of Final Four race with 5-8.
In the second game, University of the Philippines (1-12) and winless Adamson University (0-13) will collide at 4 p.m.
