UNIVERSITY of the East (UE) overcame a lethargic first half showing to rout winless Adamson University, 72-59, for its fifth win on Sunday in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 77 men’s basketball tournament at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Red Warriors started flat against the Falcons in the first three quarters but managed to get their act together in the last canto to seal the win and improve to 5-5 win-loss record.
“We still have a chance to play in the final four but we have to keep playing better,” said head coach Derrick Pumaren. “But we can’t play like this. If we keep playing like this, we can kiss our season goodbye.”
Guard Pedrito Galanza erupted for 20 points, including four triples, while Ronnie De Leon made 12 points and Charles Mammie posted 12 points and collected 10 rebounds for the Red Warriors.
Gino Jumao-as added nine points along with four assists while playmaker Shej Roi Sumang was limited to only eight points, four rebounds and three assists.
After trailing by a slim 33-34 at halftime, the Red Warriors outscored the Falcons in third (17-12) and fourth (22-13) quarters.
Adamson’s only veteran player Don Trollano and Dawn Ochea scored 18 and 12 points, respectively, for the Falcons, who are now winless in all 10 games.
