UFL action resumes with double-header

The 2016 season of the United Football League (UFL) is set to return with a double-header on Saturday at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in Manila.

After a three-week break to give way to the international games of the Azkals, the country’s premier football tournament resumes with its second round games featuring the clash between former second tier clubs JP Voltes FC and Forza FC at 1:30 p.m.

Japanese-backed club Voltes is currently ranked No. 4 in the standings with a record of nine wins, two draws and three losses while Forza is at the No. 8 with three victories, a draw and nine defeats.

According to JP Voltes team manager Kyo Nagami, they are aiming to get the No. 2 spot after the elimination round.

“Of course, we should have a good motivation for that second place. I believe it will be a tough challenge for us but we train hard everyday for that spot,” he said.

Voltes is coming off a scoreless draw against Stallion FC on August 20 while Forza wants to bounce back from a disappointing 0-12 loss to Global FC.

Top clubs Loyola Meralco Sparks FC and Global FC will be slugging it out at the 4 p.m. game.

Leading team Global holds an unblemished record of 12 wins and a draw while the Meralco Sparks are the No. 2 with 10 wins and three losses.

During their first round meeting in May, Global escaped with a narrow 1-0 victory via the lone strike of former winger Daisuke Sato.
