UNITED NATIONS, United States: The members of the UN Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the massacres perpetrated against civilians on November 20 near the city of Beni in North Kivu. The attacks have increased to more than 200 the number of civilians killed since mid-October in this region. The Security Council expressed their deepest condolences to the families of the victims. They also condemned attacks against peacekeepers of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and emphasized that any effort to undermine the peacekeepers’ ability to implement its mandate will not be tolerated.
