• UN head talks with Israeli, Palestinian leaders

UNITED NATIONS, United States: UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas that he was shocked by the recent deadly attack on a synagogue in West Jerusalem that left five people dead, and “at this delicate and dangerous juncture” both leaders must show the courage to do everything necessary to end the surging violence. A statement issued by the Office of the UN spokesperson in New York said Ban on Friday spoke separately by telephone with Netanyahu and Mahmoud. Ban said he was shocked by the deadly attack on Tuesday on a synagogue in West Jerusalem and he was “extremely alarmed by the upsurge of violence in recent weeks.”
