THE United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) dared President Benigno Aquino 3rd to cleanse first his official family, who pretend to feign innocence on the releases of “pork barrel” funds since 2010 on his watch.
Rep. Tobias ‘Toby’ Tiangco of Navotas City, who is also the executive secretary of UNA said it would be a big challenge for President Aquino to cleanse the entire bureaucracy starting from his official family,
He particularly pointed the government agencies and offices that directly deal with the releasing and implementation of the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF).
He added that the abolition of the Philippines Forest Corp. (Philforest), the National Agribusiness Corp. (Nabcor) and Zamboanga del Norte College Rubber Estates Corp. (ZREC), among others, is just the first step in cleansing the bureaucracy of bad eggs.
He said that the Executive Department cannot run away and skirt the issue on the “pork” yarn since it is the DBM that prepares the menu for all the funds.
He added that the implementing government agency is the one that pays for the projects.
The government agencies implementing programs under the PDAF should likewise be held liable and accountable in connection with the multi-billion peso misuse of government funds, he said.
According to Tiangco, it is imperative upon the President to castigate members of his official family who have been found guilty of dipping their hands in the pork-barrel controversy.
Tiangco has asked Abad to explain why bogus non-government organizations (NGOs) still continue to receive public funds from the years 2010 and 2012, adding that Abad should enlighten the public on why government money persists to be funneled into questionable accounts of non-existent NGOs until now.
He said Abad cannot just claim innocence on the multi-billion peso releases to the 82 questionable non governmental organizations (NGOs) identified by the Commission on Audit (CoA) until 2012 and the President must show that even allies are not spared. RITCHIE A. HORARIO
