The opposition United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) expressed support for One Cebu’s gubernatorial bet Winston Garcia despite its severed alliance with the latter’s party.
Binay’s camp said that it continues to stand by Garcia and that the latter is still the best candidate to lead Cebu.
“Naniniwala ho kami na si Winston Garcia ang pinakamahusay na kandidato sa pagka gobernador para sa probinsya ng Cebu, siya ang pinakamaraming magagawa, at siya ang makakabuti para sa mga mamamayan ng Cebu [We believe that Winston Garcia is the best gubernatorial candidate for the province of Cebu, he is the one who is the most efficient, and he would be best for the citizens of Cebu],” UNA President and Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco said in a radio interview on Tuesday.
“Despite the political misunderstanding, the people of Cebu deserve the best, and UNA believes Winston Garcia is the candidate who will uplift the lives of the poor,” Tiangco added.
In a press conference in Cebu on Monday, Binay expressed optimism that UNA and One Cebu will reconcile their differences.
“Kasi ang pinag-uusapan natin dito, ‘yong pangyayari sa field among our people [Because what we are talking about here is what happened in the field among our people],” Binay said.
He also stressed that Cebu third district Rep. Gwendolyn Garcia remains a member of UNA.
Rep. Garcia and Binay were together during a meeting of barangay (village) health workers in Balamban town on Monday afternoon.
Former Cebu City mayor Alvin Garcia was also present at the UNA rally at Plaza Independencia in Cebu City on Monday night.
According to Police Chief Inspector (PCInsp.) Jose Gesto of Cebu City Police Office Station 3, an estimated 37,000 people attended the event.
