The national junior team swept all its assignments to rule the 2013 Southeast Asian Basketball Association (SEABA) Under-16 Championships in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

The Filipinos completed a four-game sweep by beating Singapore via an 85-44 demolition in their last game on Thursday night. It was the Philippines’ second straight title in the tournament after topping the 2011 edition held in Banting, Malaysia.

The Philippines swamped Indonesia, 87-52, in the opening day then trounced Malaysia (76-72) and Thailand (82-58).

Ateneo de Manila University standout Jose Lorenzo Mendoza bagged the Most Valuable Player award.

Thailand settled for silver with a 3-1 record while Malaysia wound up third with 2-2. Host Indonesia placed fourth (1-3) while Singapore finished last after failing to win in four outings.

The Philippines, Thailand and Malaysia earned automatic slots to the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Asia Under-16 Championships scheduled on September 25 to October 4 in Tehran, Iran.

They will be up against defending champion China and powerhouse Iran in the Asian meet. Eleven more competing countries – four in East Asia, two in Gulf, two in Middle Asia and three in West Asia – will be determined after their respective zonal qualifying event.
