SAN Juan City Vice Mayor Janella Ejercito-Estrada called on drug dependents to participate in the rehabilitation program of barangays.
Estrada assured drug users that they will be protected by the police and the city’s anti-drug abuse council.
Estrada, daughter of detained former Senator Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada, noted that many of those who surrendered refused to undergo rehabilitation because they are afraid that they will be killed by assassin hired by big-time drug pushers and drug lords.
“They said they are afraid to undertake drug rehabilitation in their barangay [village]because some of the drug surrenderers were being killed,” Estrada said.
“I told them not to be afraid anymore because the police will protect them 110 percent,” she added.
Estrada, head of the city’s anti-drug abuse council, has adopted a barangay-based rehabilitation program to provide livelihood training and counseling to hundreds of drug surrenderers.
