University of the East (UE) wants a controversy-free season when it hosts the 77th edition of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) beginning July 12, at the Araneta Coliseum.
“UE would like to express how proud and happy we are to host the upcoming season. We will try our best to make next season a successful and, I pray, without any controversies,” said incoming UAAP President Carmelita Mateo during the turnover ceremony on Wednesday at the Century Park Hotel in Manila.
Mateo also hailed Adamson University for the successful staging of Season 76. “We congratulate Adamson for hosting a very successful UAAP. Indeed, greatness never ends.”
The Season 77, which will embrace the theme “Unity for Excellence”, will unfold on July 12 with the basketball competitions.
“See you all in all the games of UAAP Season 77,” ended Mateo.
De La Salle University bagged the general championship in the senior division while UE took home the overall title in the junior class.
Chess master Jan Jodilyn Fronda of La Salle and Camille Sambile of Far Eastern University women’s basketball team member were the senior co-Athlete of the Year awardees while fencer Divine Romero of UE was named Athlete of the Year in the junior category.
