Nature has always been considered to be one of the best stress relievers. Walking on a park, trekking in the forest, or a day at a beach can help take one’s mind off the deadlines, deliverables and the noise of daily life. It can also help reduce risk of heart attack and depression, and even increase work performance.
Volunteers from Getz Pharma Phils. Inc, one of the largest international pharmaceutical companies in the country, recently got to validate this claim as they participated in Buhay Punlaan tree nurturing activity.
The Buhay Punlaan Tree Nursery, established in 2009 to address the shortage of native tree species, is a nursery and living laboratory showcasing “rainforestation” technology—planting native trees species that are indigenous to the area in an effort to bring back or resemble its ecosystem’s original state. Only two hours away from Metro Manila, the two-hectare nursery located at Brgy. Lumban, Laguna has already produced more than 50,000 seedlings all the while serving as a serene green space with a scenic view of the Caliraya Lake.
Not only did these volunteers helped Haribon Foundation in its goal to produce more native tree seedlings, the activity also became an avenue to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Getz Pharma Phils., Inc. Senior Product Manager Chelly Sanchez expressed, “We are who we are because we have this marvelous Earth as our home! Planting trees is a meaningful way for us to pause, reflect, and realize why a home as magnificent as our blue-green Earth deserves our highest regard.”
“The experience was worthwhile for me since we seldom get involved in environmental activities as we are so consumed and focused with our daily grind at work. It’s good to disconnect with urban life and get in sync with Mother Nature to appreciate its beauty,” Nice Alfaro, product manager, also remarked.
Nature truly has a way of giving back. A half-day volunteer activity in Buhay Punlaan can help restore our denuded forests and can also bring much needed respite and relaxation of mind.
Bring friends and family with you and experience the healing power of nature and contribute to Haribon’s advocacy to restore our forests and create biodiversity awareness to more people by doing a Buhay Punlaan activity this summer.
As Oscar Medenceles, the company’s HR manager said, “The best way to learn about trees is to plant them and the best time to plant trees is now.”
