The University of the Philippines (UP) football team beat the University of the East (UE), 1-0, to claim its 12th Ang Liga Cup crown at the San Beda College Football Field on Friday.
After the bout was rescheduled several times because of the conditions of the pitch, the rival clubs finally met to settle their unfinished business.
UP immediately scored after just seven minutes of play when rookie Ivan Oberiano connected with Rogie Maglinas pass to notch the only goal of the contest.
UE, on the other hand, exhausted all efforts to post a goal but their weak counterattacks could not penetrate the defense of the booters from Diliman.
Under-23 national team standouts Ian Clarino and Daniel Gadia got through the Red Warriors’ back-line on multiple chances but were unable to score another goal until the end of regulation because of tight guarding of UE goalkeeper Lendon Clores.
