• UP posts early win in UAAP softball


    University of the Philippines (UP) opened its bid on a high note as its routed University of the East (UE), 13-3, in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 76 softball competitions at the Rizal Memorial Ballpark in Malate, Manila.

    National University (NU) and University of Santo Tomas (UST) also made their presence felt by nipping their respective opening-day opponents.

    NU demolished De La Salle University, 9-3, while UST hurdled past Ateneo de Manila University, 6-5.

    UP, NU and UST share the lead with 1-0 card each.

    Defending champion Adamson University will begin its four-peat bid against UST on Saturday at the Rosario Stadium in Pasig City.

    Adamson has 12 UAAP softball titles including three straight in Seasons 75, 74 and 73.

    In men’s football, UE faces defending champion Far Eastern University (FEU) at 3 p.m. today at the FEU-Diliman pitch.

    The Red Warriors hold the top spot with 10 points. They stunned UP, La Salle and NU then drew with defending champion Ateneo their first four games.

    The Tamaraws are in second with nine points.
