University of the Philippines (UP) swept University of the East (UE), 25-23, 25-22, 25-14, to get at least a playoff berth for a semifinals spot in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 78 women’s volleyball on Sunday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
Isabel Molde fired 12 kills, while Marian Alisa Buitre hit eight kills and four blocks for 12 points to hand the Lady Fighting Maroons a 7-4 win-loss record enough to put them in third place behind league leaders Ateneo De Manila University (9-2) and De La Salle University (8-2).
The winless Lady Warriors fought back in the first set but couldn’t get the job done also in other sets. UE absorbed their 11th loss and 56th straight loss overall since Season 74. Shaya Adorador finished with 13 points for the Lady Warriors.
Later, Kim Dy had 11 hits while Kim Fajardo and Ara Galang added 10 markers as De La Salle made quick work of Adamson University, 25-13, 25-11, 25-18, to march in the Final Four for the eighth straight season.
In the men’s action, Far Eastern University (FEU) leaned on Greg Dolor’s impressive performance to power the Tamaraws to a 25-20, 27-25, 23-25, 25-13 victory over UE Red Warriors and get into solo fourth position.
Dolor posted 17 kills and four service points to amass 22 points to lead his team, while Richard Solis and Jude Garcia finished with 15 points and 10 points, respectively, for FEU to stop a three-game losing skid and improve to 6-5 win-loss record.
UE stays winless in 11 games.
National University (NU) displayed its superiority over UP to score a 25-17, 25-19, 25-17 victory en route to a 7-4 win-loss record earning them third place behind No. 1 defending champion Ateneo De Manila University (10-1) and second leading Adamson (8-3).
The Fighting Maroons fell to sixth loss in 11 games to stay in solo fifth spot.
