• UP, UE fight for Ang Liga Cup supremacy

University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) teams University of the East (UE) and University of the Philippines (UP) will fight for the 12th Ang Liga Cup crown at 10 a.m. on Friday at the San Beda College (SBC) Football Field.

After trouncing National Collegiate Athletic Association champion San Beda College during the penalty shootout of their semifinals meeting, the UE Red Warriors aim to topple last year’s UAAP third placers UP to complete their impressive run.

UP is expected to bank on the prowess of veterans Jinggoy Valmayor and Daniel Gadia to claim the pre-season collegiate cup title.

Consequently, the 13th edition of the Ang Liga tournament is slated to commence immediately after the finals of the 12th edition.

The league will present a new competition format on Saturday in matches on division one and division two.

Far Eastern University and University of the East will start the games in the first division at 10 a.m. at the SBC field followed by the bout between Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) and Emilio Aguinaldo College at 1 p.m. The match between Adamson University and Ateneo de Manila University in the premier division at 3 p.m. will cap the opening day battles.

In the second division at the Malayan Colleges Laguna (MCL) field, University of Batangas will test their mettle against LPU team B while SBC team B takes on host MCL.

    1. Correction: UP is 1st runner-up (2nd not 3rd placers) in last year’s UAAP edition!
