• Update: 11 confirmed dead, 4 hurt in a collapsed warehouse in Bulacan


    GUIGUINTO, Bulacan: Eleven people, mostly construction workers, were confirmed dead and four others were hurt when a wall of a warehouse building being constructed in Barangay Ilang-ilang here collapsed Monday afternoon.

    Senior Superintendent Ferdinand Divina, Bulacan Police provincial director, said the identities of the casualties that include a pregnant woman, and those injured are still being verified.

    Divina said that they have yet to determine the cause of the collapse of the warehouse building. Initial findings suggest that the steel used for the wall was substandard.

    Initial reports said that the incident took place at around 3:30 p.m. in a warehouse building owned by a certain Dante Chua.

    Meanwhile, Governor Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado said the provincial government will conduct a deeper investigation on the incident.

    Those responsible will be held accountable, Alvarado said.
