Update: LPA enters PHL, to bring rains over Visayas, Mindanao

The low pressure area hovering east of Mindanao has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and will bring rains over parts of Visayas and Mindanao, the state weather forecaster said.

In its update, Pagasa said that as of 10 a.m. Friday, the LPA was spotted at 580 km east of Hinatuan town, Surigao del Sur province.

Pagasa said the weather disturbance will bring cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy rains over Eastern Mindanao which may trigger flashfloods and landslides. Eastern Visayas and the rest of Mindanao will have scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.

The weather agency is advising affected residents to take all the necessary precautionary measures.

Weather Forecaster Connie Dadivas said the LPA has a high chance of developing into a tropical depression since it is in the sea.

She said once the LPA intensifies into a tropical depression, it will be locally named, Nando, the fourth cyclone for this month and 14th to enter the country this year.

She said one more cyclone is still expected to enter the country this month. PNA
