Khalil Ramos may have not taken the same path as his contemporaries, but given his recent accomplishments here and abroad, the young actor was able to establish himself as a bonafide thespian who delivers, often more than what is expected of him.
Nominated as Best Actor in the movie critics’ award-giving body Gawad Urian for the movie “2 Cool 2 Be 4gotten,” Ramos counts this as an astounding feat.
“My first reaction when I learned about my nomination was just being super happy. It’s so fulfilling for your craft to be acknowledged by Urian, which is very credible and very respected,” he said, adding that he believes he’s on the right track where his career is concerned.
He said he immediately checked his co-nominees upon finding out that he made it into the list of nominees. He is pitted against seasoned stars Bembol Roco and Tommy Abuel, musician Pepe Smith, comedian Paolo Ballesteros, as well as rising stars Ronwaldo Martin and Garry Cabalic.
“I guess we can serve as the representation and inspiration of this generation. Parang iba siguro ang impression na nasi-set namin sa veteran actors, kasi parang may ipinaglalaban din ang generation,” he said of himself and the latter two as “younger bloods.”
“Hopefully, we gave the message, na hindi namin mapapabayaan ang craft at ‘yung foundation na ginawa nung mga actors in the past,” he added.
With excitement for the award’s night running especially high, the “La Luna Sangre” star said he’s making sure to keep his emotions in check and to not let all the online adulation get into his head.
“Sa Twitter ang daming nagsasabi na ‘O, sign na yan that you made it kasi Urian yan, nagawa mo na, you’re up there!’ Oo, na-recognize ako pero I wouldn’t say na ‘Okay na ako kasi nominated na ako,’” he intoned.
For what it’s worth, Ramos sees the nomination as a pathway for him to reach for even greater heights.
“Parang kung ngayon na-recognize ako, I’m certain na mas malaki pa ang capability in telling more meaningful and better stories in the future. Mas malaki na ‘yung pangarap ko,” he stated.
His character Felix Salonga in the Petersen Vargas coming-of-age film previously earned him a Best Actor nomination at the 12th Cinema One Originals Film Festival last year.
Only two weeks ago, the movie bagged the Audience Choice Award from the 32nd Lovers Film Festival-Torino LGBTQI Visions in Italy.
Excitement is written all over his face for the coming Urian awards night.
“Just being there for sure would be an achievement na rin for me, not just as an audience, hindi lang dahil na-invite ako, kung hindi dahil nominado ako sa mismong award-giving body na 40 years nang tumatakbo ang reputation at hindi natitibag,” the “Pilipinas Got Talent Season 3” runner-up enthused.
