US all-time homer king Bonds joins Marlins

MIAMI: All-time US home run king Barry Bonds, whose final years in Major League Baseball were dogged by the spectre of doping controversy, was hired on Saturday as a hitting coach by the Florida Marlins. Bonds is among five new coaches and four returning assistants named to the staff under Marlins manager Don Mattingly, charged with trying to revive a team that went 71-91 last season — 26 games out of a playoff berth. Bonds, 51, took his first post-player job in the major leagues after a career that saw the long-time San Francisco slugger blast a record 762 homers over 22 seasons before ending after the 2007 season.
