NEW YORK: A severe United States winter storm expected to bring blizzard conditions from Washington to New York has forced postponement of an NHL game on Friday (Saturday in Manila) and two NBA contests set for Saturday. Historic snow levels and high winds were in the forecast for the US capital and moving to the northeast. The Anaheim Ducks game that had been planned for Friday at Washington, which had already been moved two hours ahead to try and miss the storm, was postponed to an undetermined date. The NBA postponed Saturday’s Boston at Philadelphia contest from Saturday to Sunday night while Saturday’s Utah at Washington game was delayed to an undetermined date. Charlotte, North Carolina, was among the areas hit with snow and ice on Friday but conditions there are forecast to warm and clear in time for Sunday’s NFL playoff game there between the Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals, with the winner taking a berth in Super Bowl 50.
