WASHINGTON, D.C.: The Obama administration is concerned that Myanmar has disqualified about 100 candidates for upcoming parliamentary elections, apparently including many members of its minority Muslim community, the latest sign that the country’s rulers are resisting democratic reforms.
State Department spokesman John Kirby said Thursday the move, “through an opaque and discriminatory process, risks undermining the confidence of the Burmese people and the international community in these elections.”
