The US Embassy and its affiliated offices will be closed to the public on Monday, May 30 in observance of the US Memorial Day, a US federal holiday. Regular services will resume on Tuesday, May 31. Memorial Day is an American holiday observed on the last Monday of May and honors the men and women who were killed while serving in the US Armed Forces. Memorial Day, originally named Decoration Day, originated in the years following the American Civil War. It was named Memorial Day by federal law in 1971.
