• US envoy joins Muslim community’s interfaith event

US Ambassador to the Philippines Philip Goldberg participated in an interfaith community outreach event at the Blue Mosque and Cultural Center in Taguig City on July 21.

The event included planting a “Philippine-American Friendship Tree” at the Blue Mosque with members of the Muslim community.

Ambassador Goldberg also gave brief remarks citing the US government’s commitment in supporting community development projects and peace and development for Muslims in Mindanao and throughout the Philippines.

The ambassador then led the distribution of 150 packs of food items to families of low-economic backgrounds as part of a gift giving to Christian and Muslim community members from in and around Maharlika Village, Taguig.

Come evening, Ambassador Goldberg was a guest of honor during the “Iftar” dinner with officials from the Blue Mosque and National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF), as well as Muslim community members from Maharlika Village.

In Muslim tradition, Iftar refers to the communal evening meal, which breaks the daily fast during Ramadan. Ambassador Goldberg was also able to observe Maghrib, the fourth of five formal daily prayers performed by Muslims.
