The US Embassy in Manila said Tuesday that it is fully cooperating with Philippine authorities in the ongoing investigation of the slaying of a transgender man in Olongapo City allegedly involving one of its personnel.
“The United States will continue to fully cooperate with Philippine law enforcement authorities in every aspect of the investigation,” the embassy said in a statement.
A US Marine has been identified as a possible suspect in the ongoing investigation in the death of 26-year-old Jeffrey Laude alias “Jennifer.”
The transgender was believed strangled to death inside the comfort room of a motel in Olongapo City last October 11.
Laude’s body was discovered early morning of October 12.
The suspected Marine is assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines, out of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
“He is being held on board USS Peleliu while a joint Naval Criminal Investigative Service and Philippine National Police investigation is conducted,” the US Embassy said.
The US Embassy has also expressed its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Laude. PNA
