WASHINGTON, D.C.: The United States said Friday (Saturday in Manila) it has no intention of signing a nuclear weapons ban treaty backed by this year’s Nobel Peace Prize laureate, while stressing its commitment to “creating the conditions for nuclear disarmament.”

“Today’s announcement does not change the US position on the treaty: the United States does not support and will not sign the ‘Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons,’” a State Department spokesman told Agence France-Presse.
