BAGAC, Bataan: Thirty-one United States Peace Corps trainees are taking part in a three-month program in this town.
Mayor Ramil del Rosario on Wednesday formally welcomed the trainees, who will stay with selected families in Atilano, Tabing-Ilog and Ibaba villages.
Del Rosario thanked the Americans and assured their safety. “We are very grateful to all of you. I sincerely believe that your brief stay here will be fruitful and a significant one.”
During the short program to welcome them, the trainees tried to introduce themselves one by one in Filipino. They also enjoyed a snack of turon and cashew nuts afterwards.
“I joined the training to be of help and to serve and learn from the cultural exchange,” said Emilee Smith, who will serve as volunteer for two years after the three-month training program.
There is no age requirement to join the US Peace Corps but applicants have be college graduates.
