THE local business processing outsourcing (BPO) industry is not directly affected by the on-going federal shutdown in the United States (US), an industry leader said on Tuesday. According to Gillian Joyce Virata, senior executive director of the Information Technology and Business Process Association, the US federal government is not allowed to outsource work offshore. Because of this policy, Virata explained that the local BPOs do not maintain clients connected with the US government. “We don’t see any effect because the federal government of the United States is not allowed to send work offshore. So our companies here, don’t have them as clients so we are not affected,” she told The Manila Times in an interview during the International Outsourcing Summit in Makati City.
