US State Department executive visits Palawan

A RANKING official of the United States State Department will visit Palawan today to conduct dialogues with the local government and law enforcement officials to find ways on how to improve operational capabilities and maritime law enforcement.

State Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary (PDAS) Carol Z. Perez of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), will also tour the Philippine National Police Special Boat Unit Headquarters.

Her visit comes as the Philippines and the United States look to amend a Letter of Agreement granting the Philippines additional funding to enhance the institutional and operational capabilities of law enforcement and maritime law enforcement.

The US government also seeks to support reform efforts aimed at helping the justice sector prevent, investigate, and prosecute crimes.

The US government is looking to provide nearly $18,000,000 to support projects such as the Global Security Contingency Fund-Philippines (GSCF-Philippines).

The program aims to enhance the Philippines capability to enforce laws and maintain internal peace and security in the lands and seas of southern Philippines.
